Living in Palermo Botánico

Palermo Botánico is the Palermo that Palermo residents dream about when Soho gets too loud. Named for the beautiful Jardín Botánico (Botanical Garden), this pocket neighborhood sits between Palermo Soho to the west and Recoleta to the south. The streets are lined with mature trees, the buildings are elegant (many art-deco gems), and the Japanese Garden and Botanical Garden provide an oasis of green calm.

The area around Plaza Italia and the Jardín Zoológico (now Ecoparque) is the neighborhood's heart. The Subte D line stops right at Plaza Italia, giving you excellent connectivity. What makes Botánico special for expats is its hybrid character: you're a 10-minute walk from Palermo Soho's restaurants and bars, 5 minutes from Recoleta's museums, and surrounded by the best parks in the city.

Yet the streets themselves are quiet and residential. Rents are high — similar to Soho — but you get more tranquility. It's particularly popular with couples and young families who want the Palermo ecosystem without the weekend noise.
